This means:
Ensuring every employee has, or is supervised by a person with the knowledge and experience to ensure that they and others are not harmed while they work. Ensuring that employees are adequately trained in the safe use of all plant, machinery, substances, protective clothing and equipment provided.
Ensuring that employees are made aware of all hazards they may be exposed to or create while at work.
Informing employees what to do if an emergency arises at work.
Responsibilities to the public
The organisation must take all practicable steps to ensure the safety of visitors, patients, customers, neighbours and the general public while they are on the organisation’s premises.
Workplace accidents
The Waikato DHB is an accredited employer under the ACC Partnership Programme (ACCPP). This means that the Waikato DHB is responsible for the management and cost associated with all workplace accidents. A pamphlet on “Workplace Accidents” and wallet card for quick reference will be sent to you annually, as a reminder.
The Waikato DBH have appointed WorkAon to manage our workplace injury claims and to liaise with injured employees, their managers, union representatives/support person/whanau and the Health and Safety Service.
WorkAon case managers can be contacted on Freephone 0800 185 400. Injuries arising from non-work activities will continue to be managed by ACC.
What are your responsibilities?
Report injuries promptly and seek medical attention Maintain contact with your manager
Provide updated ACC certificates
Participate in rehabilitation
Report hazards/near misses
What happens to your claim?
For all work-related claims and as per the Policy you will be required to complete an Incident/Accident Near Miss Notification Form.
WorkAon is required to advise you of the acceptance/decline of your workplace injury claim.
For some complex claims WorkAon may take two months to issue a decision. These types of claims typically include:
Work-related gradual process
Work related disease or infection.
In all cases WorkAon will be relying on medical opinion to make decisions on whether your claim will be accepted/declined.
