3.1 Guidelines from the European Society of Anaesthetists
*Addendum for medical personnel: Guidelines from the European Society of Anaesthetists allow a very small quantity of milk ( up to 1/5th ) in tea/coffee. This was based on evidence that large quantities of milk curdle, but small quantities are handled like other liquids. Starvation status in this situation is at the discretion of the attending anaesthetist.
These guideline endorse offering patients black tea or coffee only.
